I use the light constantly and the grinder maybe once a month. I'd buy the same one again

For cat and dog nails. Clip the tip, then smooth the edge with the built-in grinder.
Developed with a veterinarianIn a study of clients at a subsidized grooming program, nail trimming was the task owners felt least sure about, and 45% named fear of hurting their pet as a barrier. Read the study.
Bad light makes you guess. In a dim room it's hard to see where the nail ends and the quick starts.
A fresh cut leaves an edge. That rough tip snags on carpet, furniture and you.
So the trim gets skipped. Then you're paying about $10 to $30 per visit for a job that takes minutes. Typical US prices.

“I'd clip the tip first, then flip the tool over to smooth the edge with the built-in grinder. The LED lights up the nail while you line up the cut.”
Dr. Ruth Mercer

The quick is the living part of the nail. Cut into it and the nail bleeds and hurts, so every trim is about staying past it.
Light nails: you can see the pink. Stay well clear of it.
Dark nails: even with the LED you can't see the quick. Take tiny snips from the tip and stop early.
Cats: press the paw pad gently to extend the nail, then take about 1 to 2 mm off the tip.
Plenty of listings sell the guard as a promise. Here is what it does on a real paw.

I use the light constantly and the grinder maybe once a month. I'd buy the same one again
Priya Welch
smooth clip, love it
Holly Coleman
Did the nails I was most nervous about first. With the light I could see what I was taking off
Scott Flores
my dog didn't try to eat it so that's promising
Ana Hudson
Did my dog's nails on the steps after our walk. Normally we go inside for the light. I like doing it outside where I don't have to sweep immediately.
Mackenzie Burke
I can get the little side claw with these without pushing the fur around too much
Nathan Ross
Handy for those two nails that always grow faster for no apparent reason
Eli Reed
The corner of the package was crushed but the trimmer was wedged in tight and hadn't moved
Caleb Huang
Got the box on Saturday and trimmed our cat that afternoon. He isn't usually one to stay on my lap through a whole paw but he did.
Lori Lane
Nice to have a clipper I can use left handed
Cody Lawson
The grinder is the right size for our cat. I can pick out the corner of one nail without touching the others.
Paige Bowman
Found the little charger in the box after I told my husband it wasn't there. My mistake. Trimmer's great.
Bailey Robinson
nice for nail nights, way less triming fuss
Frank Arnold
Light is useful, screen is useful, cat is unimpressed.
Patrick Burke
good tool! dog only slightly offended
Susan Ferguson
I use the grinder when I can feel a snag. The clipper gets the most use here
Bianca O'Brien
Was looking for clippers with a light, the grinder was a bonus
Mackenzie Hayes
Just the right size for the drawer in our camper. Took it out on our first trip because one of his back nails kept clicking on the floor. Quick fix.
Rosa Webb
Great for catching the nail before it gets long enough to click
Daniela King
Cat sat there looking offended but didn't move
Victor Owens
Box a little mashed. Tool was okay
Sierra Gilbert
I can hold these without my fingers getting stuck in anything. Big improvement over the scissor ones.
Cody Myers
Used it with the dog sitting on the stairs. Usually I have to get down to the floor with her
Walter Watson
Just trimmed a paw while we watched Jeopardy
Mary Banks
I got it as a gift for my mom and the packaging was in good shape when it arrived. She tried it on Buddy the next day and called to tell me I could take her old trimmer home if I wanted it. She usually asks me to help her see the nail when I visit. Apparently she's started doing one paw at a time in the living room, which works for both of them.
Rose Banks
My cat let me do an entire front paw without taking a swing at me. Better than average.
Sierra Singh
About as loud as my toothbrush. Dog looked at it once and went back to her bone
Valeria Walsh
Our puppy thinks it's a chew toy until I turn it on. Then she just watches it. Managed both front paws on the first night.
Patricia Hamilton
The cutting action is smooth. I didn't have to wiggle the blade to get through the nail
Blake Allen
Shipping was good and the clippers had no marks or anything when I opened them
Erin Carlson
I only needed it for a single nail that was snagging on the dog bed. Worth pulling out again next time.
Joseph Grant
Happy to have a light that moves with the cutter.
Zoe Matthews
Only use the file once in a while but it's good to have it handy.
Adrian Chandler
my kitten let me get both front paws! never happens
Austin Payne
The light is great if you trim pets at night like I do
Laura Price
My wife said to mention that the tracking page still said in transit after she took it off the porch. The box was fine. We tried it on both dogs that night. I had a little trouble keeping my finger off the button while I turned it around. She didn't, so maybe it's just the way I hold it
Logan Castillo
Too bulky for my kitten tbh
Deanna Diaz
The battery number helps. The button is a little too close to where I rest my finger.
Gabriel Nichols
I'm happy with the cutter and the way it feels in my hand.
Lori Ross
Trimming cat nails with a phone flashlight held between your knees is a ridiculous way to spend a Tuesday. This is easier.
George Stone
Got both dogs on the same charge. Didn't check the cat, she was in hiding.
Rosa Miller
the screen makes it easy to tell if its charged
Rachel Grant
would get one for my sister for sure
Rose Goodwin
Love how the cut ends look. No ragged bits.
Tyler Lane
I like it for just knocking off the point. The handle gets in the way a little if I try to reach across to the back foot.
Victoria Coleman
My dog's nails are mostly black. I can see the end better with the light but that's about it.
Alex Myers
It only took a second on each nail! 🙌
Gary Pierce
Good for doing just a touch on the nail that needs it.
Selena Hart
It came with enough charge that I could test it before hunting for an outlet
Vincent Bates
Works great for that one weird nail on the side.
Marlon Gonzalez
Four short steps. Go slow, and count one nail as a win.
For a few days, touch the paws at a calm moment and give a treat.
Good light, a treat within reach, styptic powder on the table.
Snip the tip of one nail, flip the tool and smooth the edge.
End on a treat and finish the other nails tomorrow.
It happens, even to careful owners. Stay calm, since your pet reads your reaction.
Press styptic powder onto the nail with firm pressure for about 30 seconds. Cornstarch or flour works in a pinch, though not as well. If the bleeding won't stop, call your vet.
Most tools clip or grind. This one does both, so you buy once and keep one thing in the drawer.

No guard can promise that. It limits how far the nail goes in. Small snips from the tip are what keep you clear of the quick.
Stay calm. Press styptic powder on with firm pressure for about 30 seconds. Cornstarch or flour works in a pinch, though not as well. If the bleeding won't stop, call your vet.
Yes. It charges by USB, the cable is in the box, and the screen shows the battery left.
Yes. Take only the very tip on small nails. The tool is [OVERALL LENGTH] long.
Owners of dogs with very thick nails that won't fit the cutting head. If nails are badly overgrown, cracked or curling into the pad, see your vet first.
You can't see the quick in a dark nail, even with the LED, so take tiny snips from the tip and stop early. Trimming a little more often beats taking a lot at once.
You can, though a second pair of hands helps with a squirmy pet. Some solo owners hold a cat between their knees. Start with one nail at a sitting.
Many dogs need a trim every few weeks, and indoor pets that don't wear their nails down may need it sooner. If you hear clicking on a hard floor, it's time. Your vet can set a schedule for your pet.
