I have an older dog that likes being left in peace on his bed. I bring it over when he's lying on his side and do the paw that's facing up

For cat and dog nails. Clip the tip, then smooth the edge with the built-in grinder.
Developed with a veterinarianIn a study of clients at a subsidized grooming program, nail trimming was the task owners felt least sure about, and 45% named fear of hurting their pet as a barrier. Read the study.
Bad light makes you guess. In a dim room it's hard to see where the nail ends and the quick starts.
A fresh cut leaves an edge. That rough tip snags on carpet, furniture and you.
So the trim gets skipped. Then you're paying about $10 to $30 per visit for a job that takes minutes. Typical US prices.

“I'd clip the tip first, then flip the tool over to smooth the edge with the built-in grinder. The LED lights up the nail while you line up the cut.”
Dr. Ruth Mercer

The quick is the living part of the nail. Cut into it and the nail bleeds and hurts, so every trim is about staying past it.
Light nails: you can see the pink. Stay well clear of it.
Dark nails: even with the LED you can't see the quick. Take tiny snips from the tip and stop early.
Cats: press the paw pad gently to extend the nail, then take about 1 to 2 mm off the tip.
Plenty of listings sell the guard as a promise. Here is what it does on a real paw.

Leah Torres
arrived quick, really good for my yorkie
Alejandra Norton
My cat is an absolute menace. Managed 3 nails, which is a record
Margaret Powell
Good for clipping the nails on my senior dog. She wasn't interested in letting me use the grinder, which is fine. The cat lets me use it
Delia Lowe
Cuts clean on my terrier. The back claws are harder to line up than the front ones.
Sydney Wallace
I liked the packaging. Small box, no giant pile of plastic when I opened it
Anthony Walker
We call our little guy the toe goblin because he tries to grab the clippers. With these I can get one nail before he figures out what's going on
Scott Gray
We give her a chew and I start with the shortest nails. She doesn't even look over until I'm halfway done with the first paw.
Curtis Scott
My new go-to for the dog who won't walk into the bathroom for a trim. I bring it to the couch.
Keith Vega
That little screen is genuinely helpful if you're like me and never remember to plug stuff in
Jesse O'Brien
It clipped my dog's thicker nail on the first squeeze.
Jamie Baker
My dog has one white nail and the rest are black. The light is super helpful on the white one. On the dark ones I can at least see where the tip is. I don't take much off those anyway. I bought it for my older dog but now my daughter brings it to my room when the new puppy starts snagging her sleeves.
Martha Chen
Would happily buy these again for our two cats.
Faith Fox
The last time I tried to file our lab's nails it sounded like a tiny blender. He wouldn't even let me show it to him the next day. I tried this one while he was lying by the back door. Did the cutter first and came back for a little smoothing after dinner. He pulled his paw back once and that was it. That feels like progress
Teresa Walker
The trimmer was packed in there tight, which I was glad about because our mail gets thrown around
Eric Torres
My dog is 13 and I mostly use it on the one foot she drags a little. It clips easily enough that she doesn't have to keep her paw up long
Riley Holland
I only wanted to do the front nails, then it went so quickly I kept going
Sierra Baldwin
we got both dogs done before the treats ran out! 😅
Alyssa Thompson
Great for touch ups. I leave it by the leash
Margaret Castillo
Very good for kitten nails.
Leo Chen
Much nicer than having to get a lamp and put it by the chair every time
Brandon Mason
Good for our beagle. I expected the file to take a little more off with each pass.
Vivian Cruz
I was able to use it on my right hand side without turning the dog around. The light gives me a good view from that angle.
Marlon Butler
The grip is a lot more comfortable than the skinny metal kind.
Leslie Andrews
pretty good. batery numbers are kinda hard to see from the side
Melissa Thompson
works good on tiny paws 🐾
Javier Hamilton
Honestly surprised the grinder did anything on the thick nail. Took the sharp edge off without a big fight
Heather Jacobs
Feels sturdy at the hinge
Sandra Snyder
At first the dog tried to lick it. Once she realized I wasn't holding food, she sat like usual for the trim.
Nathan Brown
Very pleased with how well it cut the thickest nail on her foot
Kelsey Hughes
Good shape for reaching the underside of a curled claw.
Luis Taylor
love the gripp on this!!
Wendy Hunter
The clippers feel like they should last me a good while. So far they've cut clean on the cat and the dog
Gavin Evans
Thank you for the quick delivery!
Samuel Carroll
Perfect for Luna's front feet!
Pamela Barnes
Quick shipping, works just like the pictures.
Sonia Quinn
Good light. Used it on the rug at the foot of the bed.
Courtney Ellis
I took it out to show my sister the light and she wound up borrowing it for a week
Sydney Wright
Worked for the curved nail on my old girl's front foot. Usually takes me two or three tries to get that one lined up.
Dominique O'Brien
exaclty what i was looking for
Maya Gardner
works well with my left hand
Crystal Gibson
The nails don't feel as rough as when I only clip them
Sandra King
I ordered the wrong week to be home when it arrived, but my neighbor held the box for me. Pulled it out yesterday and did my cat's front claws without any problems. I thought I'd use both ends every time, but only two claws felt rough afterward. I left the rest alone. The light was a bigger deal for me than the grinder and I'll probably use it every time
Eric Byrd
Gave the dog a much needed trim in the middle of the week instead of waiting till Saturday. It was all of five minutes.
Molly Lane
good for touchups between groomer visits
Angela Myers
The first time I used the grinder it was on a claw that I'd just trimmed with it. Easy to switch over without putting the dog down.
Deborah Delgado
works on cats 👍
Dominique Rogers
I'm impressed by how well I can see underneath the black fur on our dog's feet
Robert Brooks
Had my doubts about the light but it actually lets me see the little pale end on Buster's front nail
Alicia Lopez
Four short steps. Go slow, and count one nail as a win.
For a few days, touch the paws at a calm moment and give a treat.
Good light, a treat within reach, styptic powder on the table.
Snip the tip of one nail, flip the tool and smooth the edge.
End on a treat and finish the other nails tomorrow.
It happens, even to careful owners. Stay calm, since your pet reads your reaction.
Press styptic powder onto the nail with firm pressure for about 30 seconds. Cornstarch or flour works in a pinch, though not as well. If the bleeding won't stop, call your vet.
Most tools clip or grind. This one does both, so you buy once and keep one thing in the drawer.

No guard can promise that. It limits how far the nail goes in. Small snips from the tip are what keep you clear of the quick.
Stay calm. Press styptic powder on with firm pressure for about 30 seconds. Cornstarch or flour works in a pinch, though not as well. If the bleeding won't stop, call your vet.
Yes. It charges by USB, the cable is in the box, and the screen shows the battery left.
Yes. Take only the very tip on small nails. The tool is [OVERALL LENGTH] long.
Owners of dogs with very thick nails that won't fit the cutting head. If nails are badly overgrown, cracked or curling into the pad, see your vet first.
You can't see the quick in a dark nail, even with the LED, so take tiny snips from the tip and stop early. Trimming a little more often beats taking a lot at once.
You can, though a second pair of hands helps with a squirmy pet. Some solo owners hold a cat between their knees. Start with one nail at a sitting.
Many dogs need a trim every few weeks, and indoor pets that don't wear their nails down may need it sooner. If you hear clicking on a hard floor, it's time. Your vet can set a schedule for your pet.
